Supermoon total lunar eclipse of 27 July 2018. Total lunar eclipses occur when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon. The orange colour of the Moon is due to sunlight reflected from the Moon after passing through the Earth's atmosphere. The shorter wavelengths, such as blue light, are scattered more in Earth's atmosphere than longer wavelengths, such as red light. The orange colour leads to lunar eclipses being referred to as a blood moon. This was the second Full Moon to occur in that calendar month, a phenomenon known as a blue moon. Additionally, the Moon made a close approach to the Earth (a supermoon), making this a super blue blood Moon.,Image: 394404539, License: Rights-managed, Restrictions: , Model Release: no, Credit line: Profimedia
